The Kaaba is a small stone-structure building that, according to Muslim belief, was the first house of worship on earth dedicated to the worship of the One God. It was originally built by the first man and prophet Adam, and later rebuilt by Prophet Abraham and his son Ismail. It is obligatory for every Muslim, male and female, to make a pilgrimage (the hajj) to the Kaaba at least once in their life, if physically and financially able. The Kaaba is the place to which Muslims turn in prayer five times a day. Hence, it serves as a focal point for the one billion Muslims scattered across the globe and serves to unify them in their worship and symbolizes their common belief, spiritual focus, and direction. Therefore the concept embodied in "MeccaCentric" should now be more apparent. The center around which the Muslim revolves his or her life and being is the religion of Islam, a way of life revealed by the Creator to all of humanity in order that we may live in peace. Although the Muslim community worldwide consists of varying races and cultures, they are neither "Afro-centric", nor "Euro-centric", nor "Arab-centric". Although Muslims enjoy this world and do not deny the material aspects, they are neither "money-centric" nor "power-centric", but rather strive to be "Mecca-centric". In other words, the observant and conscious Muslim is not ruled by racial pride, material wealth and gains, or any other thing besides the law of God. And so in everyday life, the Muslim strives to please God by keeping His worship and remembrance at the center of their lives, and so the concept of "MeccaCentric" is a reminder of that. The second part of our organization's name is the Arabic word "da'wah", which means "to invite or call to something". And so the phrase "MeccaCentric Da'wah" aptly conveys our overall objective: to invite the Muslims, through education and inspiration, to re-focus their hearts and efforts for Islam and to invite the non-Muslims to learn about this beautiful and peaceful way of life. |
