In
a society where submission to the lower desires of the self is
encouraged and a social norm, it is very easy for the believer
to forget the ultimate purpose of existence,
lose focus and go astray. No one is immune to this condition
because anyone at anytime can have their heart corrupted. This
Friday khutbah is a reminder about the importance of guarding
the essence of our spiritual being, the heart. Imam Mokhtar Maghraoui
uses this forum t o introduce a five
part weekend seminar in Orlando, Florida dedicated to the topic
"In Pursuit of Peace and Happiness". In this first
session, he discusses three characteristics or ailments, which
if present within our hearts, will lead us on the path to self-destruction
and failure. He also touches upon the difference between secular
psychology of the self and the Islamic psychology
of the self. |
|
"You lose your [heart] and you lose everything in this world." "And know that Allah does not listen to, or accept, or receive, or respond to a dua [supplication] of an individual whose heart is not present and focused in that dua." "One who is impressed by his or her nafs [lower-self] never realizes what is wrong when there is something wrong." |
