At a Texas youth retreat with the theme
of striving for excellence, Imam Siraj Wahhaj instructs high
school and college students about the most important aspect of
their being, the heart. What exactly is the heart? What is
the nature of the heart? And how does one protect the heart?
Imam Siraj encourages the young Muslim audience to strive for
success by being well-rounded individuals with a foundation rooted
firmly in the spiritual aspect of themselves. By exploring the
topic and discussing the significant role the heart plays in
the life of the believer, the imam touches upon the issue of
music, lowering the gaze, the sin of fornication and adultery,
and women reciting the Qur'an in the presence of men. A great talk for any Muslim, especially
teenagers, who are seeking to increase their faith and spirituality.
Other topics discussed: the dangers of complacency, guarding
your eyes and ears, helping those who are straying off the path
of Islam, "Islamic" music, and Muslims in the music
industry. (Duration: 50 min) Siraj Wahhaj, imam of Masjid at-Taqwa
in New York, is a dynamic speaker and tireless supporter of Islamic
causes. He accepted Islam in 1969 and attended Ummul Qura University.
He is the former vice president of ISNA and has served on the Majlis Ash-Shura since
1987. He received high praises for initiating anti-drug patrols
in Brooklyn in 1988.
