 Siraj Wahhaj
discusses what he believes to be the number one issue challenging
the ummah in modern times: the need for centralized leadership.
Although many people are converting to Islam and changing their
ways, many life-long Muslims are losing their deen and succumbing
to the temptations of secular life. And so the imam asks the
question, "How do we maximize the fertile ground of America,
and minimize that back door by which people leave the deen?"
The imam's answer is a fiery speech meant to captivate the audience
and bring attention to a matter which is so often neglected.
By citing two examples (the initial disunity upon the death
of the Prophet [P] and the benefits enjoyed by America uniting
its states) the imam shows how unity and leadership are at the
core of true success for the ummah. Other topics discussed:
the importance of full-time Islamic workers, and racism among
some Muslims. (Duration: 29 min) Siraj Wahhaj, imam of Masjid
at-Taqwa, is well known as a dynamic, motivational speaker and
tireless supporter of Islamic causes. He accepted Islam in 1969
and received training at Ummul Qura University. He is the former
vice president of ISNA and has served on the Majlis Ash-Shura
since 1987. He received high praises from the media and NYPD
for initiating anti-drug patrols in Brooklyn in 1988.
