| A major concern
for Muslims in America and a hot-topic of discussion today because
of many recent laws being enacted and actions taken against Muslims
that are blatantly unconstitutional and unjust. Abdul Malik Mujahid
prefaces his comments by quoting an iyat from the Qur'an that
establishes the believer's rights and responsibilities in standing
up for justice and fighting oppression. He then draws attention
to the fact that the American government has taken a major step
backwards in terms of civil rights for its people by taking the
fundamental principle of being "innocent until proven guilty"
and throwing it in the trash. He provides examples of the injustice
which is borne out of fear by discussing deportation, secret
evidence laws, stereotypical profiling, and money-laundering
laws used to freeze funds and assets of Muslims. He then gives
helpful advice as to how we should respond to such matters as
individuals and as a community. |
