| An eye-opening address by the executive editor of the "Washington Report on Middle East Affairs" about the gross imbalance and injustice for Muslims that is pervading the U.S. political system today. Richard Curtiss, a non-Muslim, uses the example of the creation of Israel and the powerful political positions held by Jews today to show the Muslim community the absolute necessity for Muslim involvement and representation in the political arena and, moreover, the need to work together to end the political marginalization that has dominated the Muslim community in this land to date. To address this problem the speaker comments that American Muslims must assess what has gone wrong up until now by learning from past mistakes in an effort to avoid them in the future. But what is the short-term solution? Mr. Curtiss makes his recommendations and suggestions for what Muslims can do now to make their presence felt on the American political scene in order to eventually make a difference in this country and abroad. |

"There's only one sure way to deal with matters like the Israeli-Palestinian dispute in which the United States has abandoned its traditional support for self-determination, human rights, and fair play. And that is for U.S. Muslims to take the lead in helping the American people take back control of their own Middle East policy. Right now it is totally controlled by a single special interest, the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, called APAC." "I think it's unseemly, to put it mildly, that every member of the U.S.-Middle East peace team is Jewish, without even token Christian or Muslim representation." "Unlike the Israel lobby, American Muslims are not asking special aid or special favors for any foreign country. They are asking only that the U.S. government act in America's own best interest which is friendly, peaceful, and cooperative relations with all countries which support peace with justice in the world." |
