There
will come a time for most young Muslims when they will face a
crossroad that will determine their path in life. Surrounded
by drugs, alcohol and temptations on a daily basis, they could
easily make
the wrong decision leading to drastic consequences. Siraj Wahhaj,
speaking at a Muslim Youth of North America conference, prepares
the youth for this situation by encouraging them to be proud
of Islam and to ask the critical question of why exactly they
are practicing Islam. Among the lessons learned are the importance
of making the right decisions in life, especially the everyday
decision to worship Allah for His sake alone, not because one's
parents say to do so. An essential lecture for Muslim kids in
public school and on the college campus. This lecture is also
geared towards parents, imams and mentors who are charged with
the task of guiding and teaching Muslim youth. Other topics discussed:
the tragic decision of suicide, taqwa (fear of Allah) on the
college campus, how to deal with parents who don't want to pray,
can non-Muslims enter Paradise, how to get married if there's
no dating, and are there true "People of the Book"
living today? (Duration: 59 min) Siraj Wahhaj, imam of Masjid
Taqwa in New York, is a dynamic speaker and supporter of Islamic
causes. He accepted Islam in 1969, attended Ummul Qura University
and is the former vice president of ISNA.
