Dr.
Dilnawaz Siddiqui, professor of communication at Clarion University
in Pennsylvania, looks into a field where Muslims, in general,
are greatly lacking in knowledge and ability. He looks at the
power of the media and the harsh realities of the manipulative
techniques and tactics that are often used to serve particular
agendas or interests. He raises an awareness of these techniques
through a detailed analysis of them, supplimented with real-life
examples from media coverage in the past. Media being a tool
of communication that is at anyone's disposal, the main objective
of this talk is to empower the Muslim with the knowledge and
understanding of this field in order to recognize ways in which
Muslims are being targeted, but also to encourage making changes
by seeking to enter this field with the intention of using media
for the noble cause of truth and justice. |

"It's unfortunate that in the field of communication, reason is not appealed to at all. It is the emotion or fear that is appealed to." "You have to make a distinction between context on one hand and content on the other... A sports program, which provides a kind of context- the content is not the sports program... The ads are the content. |
