| With the beginning of the new Islamic year, the maulana decides it appropriate to address in this khutbah the "disaster" that takes place every year with the sighting of the new moon for Ramadan. He states his position on this intellectual, yet controversial matter very clearly based on precise verses in the Qur'an and encourages the Muslims to study this issue for themselves in order to remove the ignorance that almost always causes conflict amongst us. Furthermore, the maulana speaks about the historical significance and blessings of the tenth day of Muharram, the first Islamic month, and the virtues of fasting on this day. |

"Let us use our brain a little bit, study the Qur'an, study the astronomy, because the Qur'an speaks of astronomy!" "When Muslims speak about 'all the Muslims should get together and pray Eid one day'- that is secondary talk!... We should talk about understanding the new moon. If we understand the new moon, there will be no conflict for Eid!" |
