At a Muslim youth camp in Central
Florida, Ahmad Sakr conducts his popular course specializing
in the area of Islamic law. He frames his presentation by outlining
exactly what the shari'ah is and identifying its ten sources.
Speaking
on the level of the youth, his main focus is the proper understanding
of the Islamic law in the context of American life and how to
study Islam in general. This lecture can serve as a useful tool
for young Muslims growing up in the West as the speaker also
points out some of the many pitfalls facing them in secular society.
Ideal for Muslim parents and teenagers. Other topics discussed:
who the Islamic role models are, how to read the Qur'an properly,
the custom of a land/people, and the Prophet Muhammad's farewell
speech. (Duration: 1 hour, 19 min) Dr. Sakr was educated at the
American University in Beirut and the University of Illinois
where he received his PhD. He received his Islamic education
through the late Grand Mufti of Lebanon and from numerous Muslim
scholars from neighboring countries. He was a founding member
and president of the Muslim Students' Association (U.S. and Canada)
and
also a founding member of the World Council of Mosques in Makkah.
Currently, he is president of the Foundation for Islamic Knowledge
and has written over 56 books, not including the innumerable
articles he has authored and published.
